Apple Accuses Samsung Galaxy S4 and Google Now of Infringing Certain Patents
Apple recently added five new patents to its claims in in its ongoing litigation against Samsung. The patents target both the company’s new flagship Galaxy S4 smartphone as well as the Google Now service for the Android platform. Two of the patents specifically relate to Apple’s personal assistant, Siri, while the other three focus on the graphical user interface, data synchronization, and method for performing a certain action.
According to Florian Mueller of FOSS Patents, the following patents are in question:
- U.S. Patent No. 8,086,604: "Universal interface for retrieval of information in a computer system" (Siri-related)
- U.S. Patent No. 6,846,959: "Universal interface for retrieval of information in a computer system" (also Siri-related with the same title)
- U.S. Patent No. 5,666,502: "Graphical user interface using historical lists with field classes"
- U.S. Patent No. 5,946,647: "System and method for performing an action on a structure in computer-generated data"
- U.S. Patent No. 7,761,414: "Asynchronous data synchronization amongst devices"
Apple filed the motion to amend its infringement complaint in a California court recently. It simply seeks to add Samsung’s recently released Galaxy S4 to the existing complaint, which as of right now already targets a number of other Samsung products. According to the filing:
The Galaxy S4 product practices many of the same claims already asserted by Apple… in the same way as the already-accused Samsung devices.
The Cupertino California company first signaled the court it was intending to add the Galaxy S4 to its existing patent infringement suit previously. The recent formal filing revealed exactly which patents Apple was accusing Samsung of violating. A hearing to discuss Apple’s motion has been scheduled for June 25 in a San Jose court in front of Judge Paul S. Grewal.

they really are desperate to beat the competition by crying about them using slightly similar designs become they know they'll win if they complain enough. Steve would not stand for this.

Is there no end to how low apple will stoop? seriously, design a phone with features people want, revamp your stale boring and restricted OS and maybe, just maybe you'll see yourself back at the top again.

Even if apple did do all the things people say to do they would still be suing samesung because shortly after apples "innovation" and "revamped ios" the same people would continue copying.

Even loyal Apple users have had enough of Apple accusing other tech companies of this and that...
Invest that $$$ into R&D and bring a new product to the masses...
I for one are glad other tech companies are challenging & taking the gloss away from Apple.
Come on Apple, time to step up your game...the people are speaking and you are not listening...Twitter ID: @Jato_BZ

Really fed up with Apple's lack of Innovation and over-dependence on lawyers.

Eh, they may actually have a valid point. It really doesn't matter that much to the bottom line consumer. You either like their products, or you don't.

Apple complain about everything thats why so many people hate them.
Havent they already won enough from Samsung? They wont be happy till Samsung go bankrupt. Pity Samsung have the better devices now and there is no chance that will happen but I see it happening to Apple in the future with the way they are going. STOP SUING PEOPLE AND START MAKING BETTER DEVICES APPLE!!!

I for one was a little annoyed when Siri came out and a day later (exaggeration) google created their own. Come on, it’s too coincidental.

Apple makes it just because it's a real chance to make money, all over again. They know the risks, though, that they could lose the process and so a lot of money. It's Kind of Investment.
