Twitter Client for Mac Updated With Notification Center Integration and Bug Fixes
Just last month, Twitter for Mac OS X received an update that added support for the retina display and added other improvements.
Twitter has again updated their Twitter client for Mac OS X Wednesday afternoon to version 2.2.1. The update finally utilizes OS X Mountain Lion’s Notification Center. For far too long, notifications were only indicated by a tinted Status Bar icon or by badges on the application icon on the dock.
Notifications will come through when the user receives direct messages, or when the user is mentioned by someone. It works very similarly to the iOS version of the Twitter application, and the user can configure their notification settings from the application's preferences window similarly to how iOS users can configure their notifications in their Twitter application as well.
Apart from Notification Center integration, Twitter for Mac OS X has received multiple bug fixes, including the following:
- A fix for Growl notifications not working in Mac OS X Lion and OS X Mountain Lion
- A fix for a rare bug that could keep Tweets from being able to be un-favorited
- A fix for the missing account switcher in the composer
- A fix for a bug that could cause an error message when trying to Tweet a pasted picture
- A fix for an enlarged avatar when dragging a Tweet into an e-mail
- Fixes for various crashes
The Twitter client for Mac OS X seems to be the last thing on the list of Twitter's priorities... it's obvious from the lack of features in the desktop version of the client that are present in the iOS application. So it's nice to see that Twitter is taking at least some initiative and adding some new features to the Mac version of the Twitter client so it doesn't fall too far behind.
Twitter for Mac OS X is a free download from the Mac App Store. Existing users of the application can check for updates and will find the update in the Updates tab of the Mac App Store. Alternatively, you can download the latest version of Twitter for Mac OS X via this Mac App Store link.
