The CW TV Network Reaches Deal to Stream Content to the Apple TV
The television network, the CW, recently announced that it has reached a deal to stream content to the Apple TV. This deal expands its current at home digital options beyond Microsoft’s Windows and Xbox platforms.
The announcement was made by company CEO, Mark Pedowitz, at The CW’s yearly upfront presentation in New York. In the pitch to advertisers, Pedowitz pointed to his network’s viewership numbers, 20% of which originate from digital sources. This metric is likely to grow when the installed Apple TV user base is added to the equation.
According to The CW, the ad-supported Apple TV app will function in the same way as its Microsoft-centric counterparts. This means no cable authentication is required and full episodes will be available the day after airing.
While the CW Apple TV App will be the first offered by a TV network, current rumors suggest that the cable powerhouse, HBO, will be bringing a dedicated streaming service to Apple’s device later this year as well - we’ll have just have to wait and see. In the meantime, The CW’s TV Now app is available for free from the App Store for those of you who are interested.
