Default Facebook Poised to Steal Waze Away from Apple?

Earlier this year, MMi reported that Apple may have entertained the prospect of purchasing social mapping service Waze.

Waze is a wildly popular iOS application enjoyed by more than 30 million iOS users. It allows users to share real-time information on traffic congestion, gas prices, accidents, speed traps, checkpoints and more.

Although Apple's interest in Waze remains unclear, the iDevice maker may no longer even have the option to acquire the social mapping giant.

On Thursday morning, Reuters reported that the next target for acquisition on Mark Zuckerberg’s radar is Waze. Facebook is said to be in “advanced talks” with the Israeli mobile satellite navigation start-up.

If the deal goes through, the estimated cost to Facebook will be somewhere in the $800 million to $1 billion range.

That sucks, cos WAZE could have fixed Apple's inferior Mapsapp. Actually I've been using it lately and it seems fine although it can't navigate worth poodoo.

I'm confused about why you people would drop it just for the sole reason that it is picked up by Facebook (if it happens at all). I don't see why that is so terribly negative as opposed to if Apple picked it up, I would bet anything that Apple's first move would be to remove the "here are police" feature.

Because Facebook is for stupid people. The owner of Facebook himself said that people don't care about people dying in Africa, they care more about a dead squirrel in their front yard. You know why he's so rich at his young age? He knows that world is full of stupid people.
