Samsung Infringes on Apple Patent, Says ITC Judge
According to published reports Friday, Samsung Electronics has apparently infringed a key portion of an Apple patent.
An International Trade Commission (ITC) judge said in a preliminary decision that the infringement results from Samsung's inclusion of a text-selection feature in its smartphones and tablets.
Coverage of this development form Reuters indicates, however, that Samsung did not infringe on portions of a second Apple patent. That particular patent relates to the ability of a device to detect if a microphone or other device is plugged into its microphone jack.
The presiding judge issued this ruling back on March 26th but the decision was kept from the public until late Thursday so that both Samsung and Apple could protect and redact any sensitive business information.
Although the initial news doesn't look good for Samsung, the full commission must now decide if they will uphold it or overturn the judge's March 26th decision.
A final decision likely won't come before August.
