App Revenues on Pace to Top $25 Billion This Year

Hopefully a big paycheck will be in order for mobile app developers this year as global app revenues are on track to reach an all time global high for 2013 at a projected $25 billion.
With three-quarters of a million apps available from each of the world's largest app stores (iOS and Android), it shouldn't be a surprise that consumers are thought to spend appropriately two hours a day engaging with apps.
With a heightened appetite for apps, consumers will drive an anticipated 62% spike in global app revenues over the next twelve months. That prediction comes to us courtesy of the research gurus at Gartner.
In the last 24 months, mobile consumers have nearly doubled the time they spend with their downloaded apps across all platforms.Apple and Google Inc.'s Play store are today neck-in-neck in terms of smartphone apps catalogs and usage, said analysts. Apple still dominates in terms of money made by more than three to one, according to App Annie.
