Judge Marks Down Apple's $1 Billion Verdict
Last summer, Samsung was slapped with a $1 billion verdict after a federal jury found that it had infringed Apple’s smartphone patents.
Unfortunately for Apple, that $1 billion just got smaller by 40%.
This morning, U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh slashed the jury’s damages award by $450.5 million, saying Samsung deserves a new trial on infringement claims over its Galaxy Prevail and other smartphones.
Koh rejected Apple’s request to enhance the jury’s award, saying the amount Samsung owed was heavily disputed and the jury wasn’t bound to accept either side’s damages estimate.
As of now, Apple remains entitled to additional damages for "sales of infringing products" that were not considered by the jury in the 2012 trial. Koh will begin the process of calculating that amount beginning August 25th.

Koh is an idiot. I sometimes wonder if Samsung is paying her off.

Samsung pays off everyone, that's how they've gotten to where they are. Shame on a US Judge to change her mind....wait "her" mind. No more women judges, they can't make up their minds......ok, ok, ladies just kidding. I'm using the joke as a way to let off steam, this outrages me. Samsung is famous for ripping other companies off, and now countries.

Honestly this case was rested and the jury made a decision, I don't see why koh is allowed to do this and say the jury didn't properly judge some of samsungs infringements with some products. This seems unlawful however apples case that samsungs products stole anything close to 1b was way off. But 40% of that is not worth these Samsung products nobodies heard of..
