Default Judge Orders Apple, Samsung to Streamline Their Cases

On Thursday, U.S. District Judge Lucy H. Koh - who has a long history of telling Apple and Samsung to shape up and play nice - once again issued clear orders to the warring tech powers.

Although their patent-infringement lawsuit case isn't scheduled to go to trial until 2014, Apple and Samsung have been instructed to narrow their arguments.

Judge Koh told lawyers from both companies that they must “focus and streamline” their cases to 25 patent claims, or elements of the patents at issue, and 25 accused products. The lawsuit in question was filed last year and covers technology in newer smartphones made by both companies.

“We’ll keep narrowing and narrowing,” Koh said on the bench. “You’ve already been litigating this thing for a year; you must know something about what’s your best case.”

Next year's trial could once again be an epic showdown with a significant out, Last year in their first patent-infringement case, a jury awarded Apple $1.05 billion after determining that Samsung infringed on six of Apple's mobile-device patents.

Koh shouldn't be involved with these cases. She has shown her incompetency with the handling of these cases. Surely there must be other judges or a world court ruling to preside over Koh.

They choose her BECAUSE she handled the cases earlier. She will be familiar with the same patent infringements. So if apple or Samsung tries to sue on the same grounds they previously did that particular infringement will be thrown out.
