Default OS X Mountain Lion 10.8 Now the Most Popular OS for Macs

Apple’s latest operating system, OS X Mountain Lion, is now the most widely used operating system on Mac computers according to data from a firm known as Net Applications. Above, a graph shows the popularity between OS X Moutain Lion, Lion, Snow Leopard, and Leopard.

Mac OS X Leopard has been on a steady decline, now running on under 10% of Macs, however Snow Leopard, Lion, and Mountain Lion are all meeting at about the same spot on the graph at the end of December 2012, sharing close to 30% of Mac share, each, in order to build the rest of the Mac user base. OS X Mountain Lion, of course, being the highest of them all at 32%.

The graph also shows us how quickly OS X Mountain Lion was adopted just after its initial release in July of 2012. As soon as August hit, the increase in users has been steady up to December of 2012.

One thing that we can see from the graph is how reluctant Mac users are to upgrade their software. OS X Mountain Lion’s 32% share of all Macs in use today is a considerable amount, however it’s not a whole lot – only about a third of Mac users. With all of the new features introduced in OS X Mountain Lion, it seems like that number would be anecdotally higher.

I love ML. I have Win 8 on my Bootcamp so I can play "Steam" games and I honestly don't think it's a bad Os, I just tremendously prefer OSx. So much more user friendly.

Also off topic , I have Win 8 on my 17inch retina and on my 13inch MBP. If anyone knows how to fix the brightness and volume controls please let me know. They work fine on the 13 but the retina not at all. Damn Apple and there drivers.

Probably a driver issue alright, has Apple update BootCamp and drivers for Windows 8?

I installed mountain lion but the not staying awake on network activity, the growl notifications not being anywhere near as customisable to specific events and native notification centre being a total waste of the memory it takes to run annoyed me massively. Back on lion now and everything works totally smoothly, mountain lion would beach ball a fair bit more too.

I believe it was updated with Lion, so technically the drivers are for Win 7. However, when installing Win 8, with Bootcamp, and installing the Windows support, my mid 2010 13inch MBP has all the features. The drivers. I have control over the backlight keyboard, the screen brightness, and the volume. I do not have any of those features using Win 8 on my rMBP 15 inch. I have read this is common with this model. Though, some have reported no problem at all, and have all the functions available, or claim to know the solution. Everything I have tried has failed. I am going to have to probably scrap, and try again.

How much memory does it take up? What machine are you using? How much RAM does your computer have?

It's really not slipping. It's on par with every other release. The model below shows that all the releases are in very good agreement.

I was able to fix my issue. Just an update. Reinstalled the Apple drivers and all the issue were fixed. Thank goodness. I can now say Win 8 works flawlessly on a 15inch rMPB. Back on topic now.

I don't know how much memory it used, I just said it was a waste of system memory, Ive got a late 2011 MBP with 8GB RAM, not a hardware issue, just crappy software.
