Default Apple TV to See Challenge from Intel in 2013

In what may very well prove to be the final Apple-related rumor of 2012, there is substantial talk of Apple TV getting a challenge in early 2013 from a set-top box of similar fashion made by the folks at Intel.

According to published reports Monday, Intel could raise the curtain on a new cable service and set-top box at CES next year.

A well-placed source in the video distribution industry who happens to be in-the-know about Intel’s plans and content dealings, revealed to TechCrunch this week that the semiconductor company is "dead serious about getting its chips into the living room."
The plan is to create a set-top box and subscription TV service that would appeal to people who want streaming TV access but don’t want to entirely cut the cable cord and lose key content like sports.
From what we can gather, the new service would provide the best of both worlds: traditional channels and streaming content from leading names in the space.

As of this writing, the source in question says we may get our first look at the Intel product when CES kicks off on January 7th.
