Construction Underway on Apple's New Texas Campus

For close to a year now, Apple has been jumping the legal, political, and logistical hurdles standing between the Mac maker and its proposed new $300 million campus in Austin, Texas. Promising thousands of new jobs in the region, Apple finally secured the necessary permissions to make it happen.

This week, reports on the scene confirmed that construction has officially begun. The 39-acre campus will include one million square feet of new office space, dramatically building upon the thriving presence Apple has already established in the region.

“They [Apple] are not necessarily moving operations from California to Texas," says Austin's Economic Development Manager, Brian Gildea. "(Companies) are capping their growth in California and many have selected Austin as a viable alternative.”

As of this writing, it is estimated that Apple employs somewhere around 3,500 people in Austin. Once the campus construction is completed in 2014, the process of staffing the new campus to the tune of 7,000 total employees can begin in earnest.

Completely off topic but should get more attention this way and deservedly so considering the article MMi reported was pretty much false.

These sources show a growing increase in iOS 6 adoption since Google Maps. Uses MoPub data which monitors multiple Ad networks as opposed to Chitika's 1 ad network, making it far more reliable and clear that iOS 6 adoption grew 29% in just a few days after Google Maps was released.
Will MMi write a follow up article to show this? Probably not.

And in the same city Samsung is doing a 3.9 billion dollar expansion to one of its chip manufacturing facilities.

Frankly if California continues on the path they are on, Apple may move it's headquarters to Austin. MUCH lower taxes and cost of living for the company and the employees. California is killing itself.
