Microsoft Reveals Surface Pro Pricing

One month ago, Microsoft raised the curtain on its Surface with Windows RT and impressed the tech community with an offering that has been well received by many in the short time the tablet has been on the scene. Now, Microsoft is ready for another big push.
Wasting none of this established momentum, Microsoft said this week that it will launch Surface with Windows 8 Pro this coming January. Today on the official Microsoft Blog, pricing details finally accompanied the touted release of the Surface Pro tablet.
Here's what we can tell you. The 64GB standalone version will be priced at $899. The 128GB standalone version will, naturally, cost more and come with a price tag set at $999. Microsoft says that both versions come with a Surface pen with Palm Block technology and "include the ability to use a Touch Cover or Type Cover" - but those are still sold separately.
Not surprisingly, everyone isn't a fan of the price tags unveiled today.Surface with Windows 8 Pro uses the same familiar elegant design principles as Surface with Windows RT including the Dark Titanium VaporMg casing, dual 2x2 MIMO antennas designed specifically for Surface and of course the kickstand.
“At that price, by the time you add the keyboard you’re at the price of an 11-inch MacBook,” Wes Miller, an analyst at Kirkland, tells Bloomberg. “Everyone always says, ‘well, Apple is so expensive,’ but here we are in that same neighborhood looking at houses."

Because you're trying to pick a fight by being completely biased and in denial about the fact that Apple has devices of higher quality. The fact that you're being rude about Apple fans on a mainly-Apple site is even worse. Show some respect towards people and their opinions before you begin talking rudely. By the way, your grammar and spelling suck.

lol no problems mate.
but why mention about the higher quality of apple devices? there is no denying that i love apple products design and its way ahead of everything else so please dont use that?
and sorry my spelling sucks on a forum, dont get paid enough to be professional on here, when im at work getting paid X amount of money then ill be professional and worry about grammar and spelling!
also i dont understand how im being biased we are talking about a product that doesnt have an apple alternative.
im saying for 1k your getting a good device and the price is justified.Last edited by HannibalK1ng; 11-29-2012 at 06:22 PM.

Can you detach the keyboard on a mb Air? No.
Is it touch screen? No.
And I get you can just buy a Mac and an iPad but! That's gonna cost you more then the Surface and its way easier just carrying around one tablet then a laptop & tablet. I WUV my MacBook Air so try not to hate me little fanboys 😘

I'll get a Surface pro if it can be hackintoshed, then it is just a touchscreen macbook air. Granted, Bigger, but still. It'd be cool. xD

So is the pen $200 or something, i see no reason why this tablet needs to be at such a high price, Windows 8 alone is less than $60 bucks, and this being a tablet it limits the ability of the OS. Not to mention amost 1k for a mere 64gb, i can buy a 500gb external hard drive for a mere 5% of the full cost of the tablet.

Okay now, lets be honest....
When the iPad came out, I 'thought' it was gonna be a cross between the iPhone and a MacBook. Instead, it was just a really big iPod Touch. It still requires a computer to sync non-iTunes media and it can only install App Store applications. I can't complete 'normal' OSX tasks on it like I can w/ my MBAir which kinda sux!
Although I wouldn't buy a Surface Pro, I think they did a great job combining the tablet and the PC. I love the keyboard and WISH the iPad had something similar to it. The ability to use it as a tablet or a computer is the perfect all-around device. I hope Apple takes note and starts merging the two ideas cuz that's what the iPad should've been from the beginning!!!
As far as price, what would u pay for a tablet? What would u pay for a computer? Even though this might be a little bit high, I think their pricing is fairly close to reasonable considering you get both in one. I 'guarantee' if Apple released an iPad/MacBook device, they'd charge more than a MacBook for the simple fact that they put two OS' on one device.
Let me hear your thoughts....Last edited by thazsar; 11-29-2012 at 09:16 PM.

Curious what the ram is. I love my iPad but wish I could use some programs on the go instead of my work pc. I never use my laptop anymore and will be in line for this Surface. Accounting on the go!
