As everyone continues to purchase the newer iOS devices, one question continually comes to mind: When does the jailbreak come out? Such is the case for the iPhone 5, fourth-generation iPad, iPad mini, and last but not least, the Apple TV 3. While most of the devices named are relatively new, the Apple TV 3 continues to remain non-jailbroken for the longest. The folks over at FireCore, the people behind the Seas0nPass jailbreak tool for the 2nd generation Apple TV, continue to say they are still working on a jailbreak for the Apple TV 3:

No one is more anxious than us to get the ATV3 opened up to 3rd party apps, but due to the reasons mentioned above we’re not able to provide any kind of release timeline right now.
According to a recently released blog post by FireCore, the gist of the issue continues to come down to the lack of expertise when it comes to cracking the security that Apple has put on the device. The following was said in the blog:

While we tend to think of ourselves as pretty resourceful, the security related expertise that is required in order to release a jailbreak for iOS based devices like the ATV is just not in our wheelhouse, and we’re simply left to encourage the capable few as best we can.
If you have an older iOS device, there seem to be several possible jailbreak options ahead of you. For those of you who were fortunate enough (or in the case of a jailbreak, less fortunate) to have a new iOS device, you’re still stuck waiting. As always patience is a virtue but in this case, you don’t really have much of a choice either. Let’s hope the jailbreak community finds a way to crack the new devices and make room for more jailbreaks overall.
