Default Apple TV 3 Jailbreak Not Coming Any Time Soon

As everyone continues to purchase the newer iOS devices, one question continually comes to mind: When does the jailbreak come out? Such is the case for the iPhone 5, fourth-generation iPad, iPad mini, and last but not least, the Apple TV 3. While most of the devices named are relatively new, the Apple TV 3 continues to remain non-jailbroken for the longest. The folks over at FireCore, the people behind the Seas0nPass jailbreak tool for the 2nd generation Apple TV, continue to say they are still working on a jailbreak for the Apple TV 3:

No one is more anxious than us to get the ATV3 opened up to 3rd party apps, but due to the reasons mentioned above we’re not able to provide any kind of release timeline right now.
According to a recently released blog post by FireCore, the gist of the issue continues to come down to the lack of expertise when it comes to cracking the security that Apple has put on the device. The following was said in the blog:

While we tend to think of ourselves as pretty resourceful, the security related expertise that is required in order to release a jailbreak for iOS based devices like the ATV is just not in our wheelhouse, and we’re simply left to encourage the capable few as best we can.
If you have an older iOS device, there seem to be several possible jailbreak options ahead of you. For those of you who were fortunate enough (or in the case of a jailbreak, less fortunate) to have a new iOS device, you’re still stuck waiting. As always patience is a virtue but in this case, you don’t really have much of a choice either. Let’s hope the jailbreak community finds a way to crack the new devices and make room for more jailbreaks overall.

I have an ATV 3 but I never have really thought about a JB for it. It does everything I need right now. Having one would be nice though for some 3rd party apps.

That's sort of where I stand now anyway. I have a 2G that hasn't been jailbroken in a long time because I got netflix and hulu on it and that is the main use of it.

Honestly I think everyone knew Apple TV wouldn't get a jailbreak anytime soon since the 5 isn't even jail broke as well.

ATV Black is a really nice add-on to the ATV2. Both mine are jailbroken. If/when it comes to ATV3 I will consider it. I am still holding out for the iPhone 5 for the same reason. My ATV2 and iPhone 4S are keeping me happy till then. :-)

I'm buying an ATV3 as soon as the JB is released, not a day sooner.

Cheap hardware capable of running XBMC is all I need =)

Word up. Both my 2nd gens Atv's, iPad2, and both MBP are rocking the XBMC.

XBMC is quite possibly the coolest thing I've ever done to a jailbroken device. I have a jailbroken iPhone, iPad, and ATV2. The JB for the ATV2 is by FAR the most useful. It's not even close.

Well I said this at the beginning of the release of iOS 5, jailbreaks are going to become a blessing of the past. Each new device is getting stricter security making it damn near impossible for the jb geniuses to beat the geniuses at Apple. It sucks and unfortunately I guess I'll be looking at other phones instead of the i5 =( because I've become spoiled with the jb and really can't stand the iOS without it.

I am with you on this. I will rock my 4s on 5.1 for as long as I can. I'm grandfathered unlimited so tethering is my thing. Unfortunately it is looking like the end of the line is near for JB'ing newer devices. Oh well. It was great while it lasted.

I wish blogs would **** off with news about the 'ATV3' and 'no jailbreak'. No ******* ****!!! Last time checked there was no jailbreak and not much hope in sight. Unless something changes it's like me saying "Cops will now pull you over if they catch you speeding!". Any other words of wisdom? Maybe "Earth still continues to be round this week, we drew a chart showing how many times this week it was flat and round".

/sorry about all that turns out I had a lot to say...

It's a media center, started off with modded xbox's then moved on to a ton of other platforms hence XBMC (X Box Media Center). It's plays almost any video format without ever toying with codecs in windows and so on. There are a lot of other things out there that are actually XBMC at their core for example Plex client is a modified XBMC distribution, boxee also uses XBMC.

It's good stuff been using it for both my and my girlfriends TV front end for many years now.

    XBMC

No JB => no ATV3 purchase for me. Simple enough. I will *NEVER* buy a device unless it is really mine.

(and before you jump to say "oh, you cannot program your fridge to to other things", sure... what I mean is not buying things that are *artificially* limited on what they can do, like all IOS devices are until you JB them)

Excuse me if I sound negative, but why would you write an article about Firecore not releasing a jailbreak? Correct me if I'm wrong, but they've never released one before. I doubt they've ever found or even looked for an exploit. None on their team are hackers, so writing an article saying they won't release one seems pointless.

As I understand it, they're wrappers, who take other people's work and then repackage it. I realize that this specific wrapping is beneficial since it adds functionality, but in the end, they are not jailbreakers and never have been, so no one should expect them to release a jailbreak.

That is true, they are "wrappers.". However, no one else is saying anything about the current status of the JB. To me, and I'm sure plenty of others users appreciate the update. Wether it be from the Dev or not as it is still a reputable source.

Can always AirPlay xbmc from a jail broken device to the Apple TV 3... I'm getting atv3 in a month or so because I really want to AirPlay movie box instead of using a wire
