Samsung Raises Prices on Apple as Partnership Winds to a Close

In yet another key illustration of how the relationship between Apple and Samsung is growing even more tense as the business partnership gets closer to a final resolution, Samsung is reportedly hiking prices on Apple while it can still do so.

As MMi has reported through the last few months, Apple appears eager beyond words to end its reliance on Samsung for the manufacturing of its mobile processors. But until that happens, it now looks like Apple will be paying more for the goods.

Samsung Electronics , the world's largest technology firm by revenue, raised the price of mobile processor supplied to Apple Inc. by 20% recently.

"Samsung Electronics recently asked Apple for a significant price raise in (the mobile processor known as) application processor," a source was quoted as saying by MarketWatch. "Apple first disapproved it, but finding no replacement supplier, it accepted the (increase.)"

In the future, all signs point to Apple developing its relationship with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing and cutting all ties with Samsung. According to rampant speculation, Samsung Electronics will not be granted a renewal of its long-term contract to supply APs to Apple when the current deal expires in 2014.

So if they have a current contract how are they allowed to raise the price by 20%? I would think that would be prohibited unless there is a clause involving price increases that was approved by Apple when they sealed the deal.

People cheering for either company is strange to me. What do any of us really have invested in them other than possibly owning their products? I guess i'll never truly understand

Stole? You know there is another side to the story. From the pro Apple side. It looks as if Apple finally got the money that Samsung stole from them. With Samsung nearly making identical looking devices and stealing what should of been Apple's customers.

I wonder how much Samsung would make. they sell tens of millions of chips to apple and at 20% more it seems like they'd make a killing.

The chips themselves probably only cost anywhere from 2$-10$. its not much of a raise for them. As to the fact they have lost most business from apple one of their largest clients.

Ehhhh. It may end up that they didn't "win". The jury foreman story could sink that jury decision. If a jurist has been sued ( and lost to them) by a company that has a close relationship with one of the parties in the case he is a jurist on, do you REALLY think he will be impartial? Especially since he was an employee of said company that was suing him and would be familiar with that relationship? In any true meaning of the pursuit of truth and justice that would be grounds to win an appeal.
