VirnetX Sues Apple Once Again After Winning $368 Million in Previous Patent Trial
As noted by The Next Web, internet software and patent holding company, VirnetX, recently announced that it is asserting four virtual private network patents against Apple’s latest products. Now if you didn’t already know, the same four virtual private network patents were used previously to secure a $368 million aware from Apple previously.
According to court documents from the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, VirnetX filed the new complain on the same day it won the favorable jury decision. The new lawsuit takes aim at the Apple products which were not included in the previous suit due to their release dates. The products in question include the iPhone 5, the fourth-generation iPad, the iPad mini, the fifth generation iPod touch, and the “latest Macintosh computers.” VirnetX seems to basically be going after all Apple devices that have FaceTime capabilities.
As mentioned before, the company is using the same four VPN-related patents that it used in the previous suit. The patents involved specifically consist of the following: U.S. Patent Nos. 6,502,135, 7,418,504, 7,921,211 and 7,490,151. The company seeks to force a preliminary injunction against the alleged infringing Apple devices as well as damages related to their sale.
VirnetX has been successful at gaining large sums of money from not only Apple but also Microsoft, as the company was given $200 million from Microsoft which was found violating two similar VPN patents. The holdings firm is also in the middle of ongoing litigation against Cisco Systems, Astra Technologies, and NEC Corporation. We’ll have to wait and see what comes of the case against Apple.

I can understand company's that make things suing each other as they have made things that may/may not look like each others but why allow these bottom feeders to do this?? If they have not used the patent to make something it should be nil and void!

I'm glad you pointed out Microsoft got sued too. So it's people don't perceive this as apple law suits 24/7 etc. too bad the ignorant still fail to realize lawsuits are common in business it is has and will happen

This is what is wrong with our patent system, This is literally a company that hold patents just to make money off others that use anything close.

Wait, whats so shocking here? A bunch of nerds got together back in what, 1999 and invented and patented something (from their brains) and big corps like MS, Cisco, Apple decide they could just come along and use it? And even if they sold it to or leverage a company like VirnetX and there lawyers to fend of this activity and protect their IP, so what...
Bottom line, you can't just take someone's shtz no matter how big you are. Now "pay em for the rimes you stole from them"...
