Default New Job Listing at Apple Points Toward Editing iWork Documents Over the Cloud

It appears that Apple is looking to bring iWork document editing to the cloud as the Cupertino California company continues to search for an iWork Software QA Engineer. The new job listing, based at Apple’s Cupertino campus, is looking for a successful candidate to work on “the next generation of Desktop, Mobile and Web application/services.” The most interesting part about the whole job description is the “Web application/services” portion. This tidbit suggests that Apple may possibly be working to bring iWork to the cloud, which could allow users to create and edit users Pages, Numbers, and Keynote documents in their web browser.

For those of you who didn't already know, iWork is already a part of iCloud, but as of right now its cloud-based functionality is extremely limited at this point. Users can currently sync their iWork documents between their Mac and iOS devices, but the only thing they can do in the web browser is view the documents. If Apple implemented browser-based editing, Apple’s iWork package would definitely compete with other similar services such as Office 365 from Microsoft and Google Docs.

Many other Apple apps have already made their way into the cloud. Earlier this year, Apple released web-based versions of Notes and Reminders, allowing iCloud users to access the apps from any web browser when they are away from their devices. The features prove to be useful for many consumers who are constantly on the go and/or own multiple iOS devices that they utilize for work.
