Jony Ive Reportedly Tinkering with Major iOS Design Changes
In what likely amounts to another example of how Scott Forstall's controversial departure from Apple may actually benefit the tech giant, a new report indicates that famed Apple design guru Jony Ive may now be afforded an opportunity to do some nifty things with iOS and OS X.
The senior vice president of industrial design at Apple has been tapped to fill much of Forstall's abandoned role. And sources speaking with The New York Times this week say that Ive will "waste little time in putting his own stamp on the look of the company’s software, including iOS for mobile devices and OS X for Macs."
“You can be sure that the next generation of iOS and OS X will have Jony’s industrial design aesthetic all over them,” said an unnamed designer who works at Apple. “Clean edges, flat surfaces will likely replace the textures that are all over the place right now.”
Although some have expressed concern with handing decisions about software design over to a designer known mostly for achievements in hardware design, the bulk of buzz coming out of Cupertino right now is positive.

I'll admit...I'm excited to see what he does. Could widgets for the notification center be out of the question?

All we'll get is a thinner more robust OS. i.e. Ives two favourite words.

Can't reply to any comments because once you log in all comments disappear except the first one... FIRST CLASS website we are NOT. Long term problem the last year.
Anyways to the commenter above that said Johnny Ive is NOT a great designer.. ARE YOU KIDDING US?? The seamless design of the iDevices you see in last several years are all Johnny Ives designs. He is incredible. He was highly looked upon by Steve Jobs and he is awesome. You clearly don't have a freaking clue.

they'll probably copy a boat load of features from Android, RIM and Cydia.

There's a reason why everyone wants to have this guy working for them....there's a reason Apple pays him a ton of money...he's the best at what he does and he's going to make iOS a lot better!

I hope Apple will not give up to peer pressure from the media and release the IOS in the way that the media wants Apple to do. IOS was known for its simplicity. Sure it gets boring after a while, but what doesn't?
