Carbon Fiber, You Say? Apple Working on Mysterious Product
According to the latest tidbits of insider knowledge out of the far east, Apple is allegedly working on a mysterious new product made with a most interesting component - carbon fiber.
On Wednesday, Japanese blog Macotakara reported that Apple is placing orders for parts made from the aforementioned material. What does that mean? Most likely, Apple is working on a new product that will be lightweight but also immensely rugged and durable.
Could the carbon fiber be implemented into an already-existing Apple product? Possibly. But the chatter out of Asia hints at a new device altogether. Macotakara even notes that Apple's large order of the components confirms that something is brewing on a massive scale. In other words, Apple isn't merely working on a prototype of something in the lab.
With Apple devices getting lighter and lighter with each passing generation, there's no telling what Apple has in mind or if the purchased components could even be related in some fashion to the rumored forthcoming iPad mini. As of this writing, Apple is still expected to formally introduce the smaller, more affordable iPad before the close of 2012.

I dont think its for an iPad Mini, more plausible that its for the iPad 4 which should be released March-ish

I doubt carbon fiber would help produce a cheaper iPad...

I think apple has a good strategy for its portable devices with the machined aluminum. Take the iPhone 5 for an example, reviews say it is impossibly light. Now what would require strength and quality that isn't feasible with aluminum? Maybe something large, perhaps an apple television. This would be a strong lightweight material that wouldn't scream cheap for the back of a tv.

Carbon fiber back to the new 5s in 6months. That would blow. Wonder what the iOS update will fix

I could honestly say I believe rumors, I feel as Tim cook isn't very tight on security. I say that cause all(mostly all) the rumors were true on the iPhone 5 and Tim cook didn't look like he care or was up tight about it. But who knows."You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not"
