Rumor: Amazon to Launch New Kindles in Two Weeks

The biggest rumor in the mobile space today is that Amazon is on the verge of releasing a refreshed slate of Kindle tablets. Although last fall's release of the Kindle Fire didn't rob the iPad of it's still-commanding tablet market share, Amazon continues to plug away at it's apparent goal of building a comprehensive mobile ecosystem of its own.
According to All Things D, a curious bundle of invitations to the media has been sent out for a September 6th press conference that will take place in Santa Monica, California. Amazon, however, isn't saying much beyond the following: “Please join us for an Amazon Press Conference.”
"Now, there are all sorts of assumptions and rumors for what the next device will be," Tricia Duryee writes for All Things D. "Mostly," she says with regard to the Kindle Fire, "people think it will be a device with a larger screen."
What the rumor suggests in the abstract is that Amazon will release a refreshed family of Kindle tablets and e-readers. The timing of the event, of course, makes sense for Amazon. After all, the tech headlines for the remainder of September will belong to Apple, which is expected to formally unveil the 6th generation iPhone one week after Amazon's media event.

Nice, the fire was definitely a competitor early on because of the price. Not a direct competitor but definitely had a bunch of people looking back and forth trying to decide between the two(iPad v Kindle)
