Next iPod Nano May Follow iPhone Design
Sources in the far east claim that Apple's next iPod nano borrows no shortage of aesthetic and internal design attributes from the iPhone. In fact, Japanese blog Macotakara says that Pod nano will be oblong, not square-shaped.
If the "reliable sources" are correct, the click-wheel interface will be eliminated. Instead, a familiar home-button near the bottom of the gadget will give users most of the control they need. Although this much was left unsaid, it is implied that the iPod nano will sport a touchscreen.
As we've been hearing in recent months, Apple is likely going to pull the plug on Ping this fall. But where there's an anticipated loss, there is also now an expected addition to the iTunes world. Consistent with other chatter we've heard, Macotakara says the iPod nano will get its own dedicated iTunes service.
Macotakara presented the image renderings above based on the allegedly leaked case design that apparently spills the beans on the look of the next iPod nano - an Apple device that hasn't had a facelift in a while. As of this writing, however, it isn't clear if the device will be iOS-powered or if it will be released in conjunction with the new iPhone this fall.

I think this would be cool and successful. I might even buy a nano if this comes to be a fact.

Also looks like it could be a pretty awesome remote control. Would make apps on an Apple TV work nicely.

No, the current iPod nanos are really good. I say they should cut the iPod shuffle production and make a 2-4 gb iPod nano.

Heck no. The next iPod nano should resemble a smart watch as seen by motorola and Sony . The current nano doesn't do enough as a music device and having it paired with an iPhone to do neat tricks would make more sense than a trashing of the square design.
