Default Apple Updates MacBook Air, and Regular MacBook Pros

Apple updated the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro sans the rumored Retina Display as well.

These updated models keep their traditional MBA and MBP designs, but feature beefed up internals including Ivy Bridge processors, USB 3.0, and improved graphics.

The updated MBA includes Ivy Bridge Processors with speeds up to 2.0GHz, and improved SATA 3 SSDs that can reach up to 512GB of storage with up to 8GB of RAM. Prices start at $999 for the most basic offering and extend up to $1099 for the fastest MBA. The 11-inch model features a display resolution of 1366 x 768, and the 13-inch model has a resolution of 1440 x 900.

Apple also threw in a new FaceTime HD camera as well as dropped the price by $100 across all models. Unfortunately graphics solution are still integrated.

The updated MBP features Ivy Bridge i7 quad-core processors with speeds up to 2.7 GHz. Users can pack up to 8GB of memory, and improved Kepler GeForce GT 650M discrete graphics with up to 1GB of memory. They feature USB 3.0, 7 hours of battery life and are available today for $1,199 for the 13-inch model base and bumps up to $1,499 for the dual-core i7. The 15-inch models start at $1,799 and $2,199 for the faster option.

For those not wanting to pony up the money for the Retina Display next generation models, the update is a no-brainer for those in the market for a new laptop. The new models begin shipping today, so check the Apple Store after the Keynote to order yours.

I don't see many people opting for the $2199 "classic" model when they can get the "retina" model for the same price. All you're sacrificing is a little bit of CPU and HDD space, but you make up for it with the increased speed of the SSD.

999 for an 11 inch laptop is a ripoff
