Mamma Mia! Apple Reportedly Buys Italian Startup

Apple has reached far across the Mediterranean to gobble up its latest addition to the iDevice-maker's sprawling empire. According to published reports Wednesday, Apple may have acquired Redmatica, an Italy-based startup that produces music editing software.
The news comes straight out of Italy where the regional blog Fanpage uncovered documents from the Italian communications regulator AGCOM that suggest the acquisition has already taken place. By all accounts, Redmatica is a small company that doesn't generate substantial revenue each year.
So why is Apple interested? Chances are the iDevice maker is looking to supplement some of its audio and music-related software and product offerings with the tools pioneered and perfected by the undeniably talented team at Redmatica.
For the time being, of course, there is no confirmation of the purchase from Apple, let alone information regarding what the Cupertino, California-based outfit may have paid to acquire Redmatica, its intellectual properties, and other company assets.
