Kaspersky Lab Not Tapped By Apple for OS X Security Consultation

Apple is leaving no stone unturned when it comes to cracking down on malicious malware taking aim at Macs. But asking Kaspersky Lab for help isn't one of those proverbial stones.
Despite earlier reports Monday to the contrary, reports that Apple invited Kaspersky Lab to consult on OS X security problems and general concerns have turned out to be invalid.
"Mac OS is really vulnerable, and Apple recently invited us to improve its security," Kaspersky'S chief technology officer, Nikolai Grebennikov, reportedly told Computing magazine. "We've begun an analysis of its vulnerabilities, and the malware targeting it."
But that quote and, it seems, the interview at large were taken out of context. "Apple did not invite or solicit Kaspersky Lab's assistance in analyzing the Mac OS X platform," the company went on to say in a statement of clarification. The examination was "conducted independently of Apple."
Although Grebennikov says that the Flashback malware is "a huge sign that Apple's security model isn't perfect," apparently, Apple now has the matter well enough under control to avoid needing any extensive assistance from Kaspersky.

Nothing is perfect..hello! At the same time, the threats that have made it to OS X have been minimal when compared to our competition. 600,000 infected compared to millions infected is small banana's in my book. I advise you get some sort of anti virus..but that's a no brainer these days.
