Apple Boosting its Retail Space Inside Target, Wal-Mart?
Here's a headline you may have expected.
Upon news yesterday (check out MMi's coverage) that retail giant Target is dropping all Amazon Kindle products from stores - including the red hot new Kindle Fire - word surfaced today that Apple is poised to expand its retail presence inside of Target stores.
With all the space freed up by the removal of Amazon products, it seems like a natural fit for Apple to fill the void. But according to today's published reports, Wal-Mart is also expected to allocate more precious in-store real estate to Apple products.
"We believe the Target/Apple relationship will not expand to the full Mac lineup given Target does not sell a significant line of PCs," Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster told investors this morning. Nonetheless, Apple's presence may blossom into more of an "Apple store inside of a Wal-Mart/Target" type of arrangement.
As of this writing, there's no word on when such a dramatic development may occur, but Apple is actively testing an expanded store-in-a-store concept at a select few Target and Wal-Mart stores in the U.S. today. If that goes well, expect big changes at your largest neighborhood retailers in the near future.

It makes me mad. I buy Amazon cards quite a bit and the Walmart by my house recently quit carrying Amazon cards and replaced them all with iBooks. The nearest place I can find with them is a Best Buy 30 miles away

I'd gladly drive 30+ miles to avoid Walmart!
