Apple to Spend One Quarter Billion on New Oregon Data Center
Apple will reportedly shell out some major green for its latest "green" enterprise. As confirmed Friday by the Associated Press, Apple's forthcoming data center in Oregon will absorb a massive chunk of the iDevice's maker's loose change.
According to details that have come to light, Apple will plunk down $250 million for the facility to be located on 160 acres of Apple-controlled land. Apple also agreed to pay local governments $150,000 a year in return for a 15-year property tax exemption for the data center.
As part of the company's agreement with Prineville and Crook County, Apple is pledging to create some pretty cushy jobs in the community - at least 35 jobs with wages "150 percent of the county's average wage."
In the grand scheme of things, Apple is in good company in Oregon. Just last year, Facebook opened a data center in the general proximity of the Apple site. Amazon and Google also operate facilities in the area. In other words, it's a great place from which to power the clouds.
