Default 83-Year Old Woman Walks Into Glass Door, Sues Apple

Legal trouble and Apple tend to go hand-in-hand lately, but the latest lawsuit against the company doesn’t involve IP litigation. It involves an 83-year old woman and a glass door.

According to the lawsuit Evelyn Paswall is suing Apple after walking into the glass doors at the Apple Store Manhasset on Long Island. According to the CBS New York report Paswall is asking for $75,000 in medical expenses plus $1 million in punitive damages for negligence.

“Paswall claims that she didn’t realize that she was walking into a wall of glass as she approached the store, and says that she broke her nose as a result of the collision.

Her suit claims that “the defendant was negligent ... in allowing a clear, see-through glass wall and/or door to exist without proper warning.” — CBS New York
Apple’s floor-to-ceiling glass walls and front doors are a staple of the modern Apple retail store. Last year, Apple even had white stickers installed on the transparent glass of all Apple Stores to help prevent collisions such as this. The plaintiff’s lawyer claims the markings are insufficient and his “client is an octogenarian (80+ years old). She sees well, but she did not see any glass.”

How many times have people accidentally walked face first into a screen door? Imagine doing that into glass. The potential for damage is there. While I do feel bad for this elderly woman, all I can think about is this video (be careful video may be NSFW).

what a joke. people are ridiculous these days. she obviously DOESNT see well contrary to what her lawyer says. I have seen people walk into glass doors or screen doors, and you know what they do? They get embarrassed and laugh at themselves, they don't try to sue for 1.075 million dollars. Here is a tip for all you people who walk into glass doors and break your nose...PAY ATTENTION! Its called situational awareness.

Me and my friend just thought of the same thing. If she can't see the glass door, why does she want an iPad? This woman is crazy as hell and the lawyer just wants all the money.

maybe she needs a guide dog this should not even be herd in a courtroom and the lawyer should be fined for even trying to defend something like this.

Lawyers that try this crap should face a stiff fines for trying to get away with this

This once happened to me when the closer at the top of an automatic door was broken, ran smack bang into it and spread my nose across my face. One law suit later I was significantly better off! I say go old lady!!

What the hell is an 85 year old doing in an Apple store bet she thought it was a fruit shop in sure she is blind as a bat!

I wish I had a miniature elephant that fit in the palm of my hand. I would pick him up and he'd lift up his trunk and stand on his back legs and say PRRRRRRRRRRRRMMMMMMMMMPPPPPPPPPHHHHHHHH and I would say yes little elephant i love you too.

I don't know what's more sad.......the fact that this lady might win a million bucks or the countless number of people that will pull a similar stunt in hopes of a nice payday if she does win.

--- "Okay grandma....see that glass over there right in front of you?

    "No."

--- "Perfect....now just casually walk forward as fast as you can and we'll be set for life. I love you Grandma."

Firstly, I said ran, and secondly it wasn't an automatic door, it was a door that you have to push to open, with an automatic closer on the top, which was hanging down preventing the door from opening, and thirdly i'm not in the USA which I assume is where you think I am. So before having a go make sure you read my post properly yeah? Get off your high horse you ignorant *****.

right I'm ignorant and you ran into a door. idiot. I don't give a f where you live. It is people like YOU with frivolous lawsuits that make this and ANY country get a bad rap. Also why would you RUN into a doorway that you had push to open. Sounds to me like you got what you deserved for acting like an ***.
