California Lawmakers Mandating Energy Efficient Smartphone Chargers
Legislators in Sacramento, California are cracking the whip on smartphone makers that produce device chargers that are subpar in terms of energy efficiency.
As the AP confirmed Friday, the California Energy Commission voted 3-0 on Thursday to "regulate the power-sapping chargers that waste as much as 60 percent of the electricity they consume."
The only objections to the move came from consumer product makers, as the mandate comprehensively covers cellphones, tablets, and practically any mobile device that requires charging.
Apple, however, isn't among the vocal objectors. In fact, on the same day that news broke of the sweeping new mandate out of California, the Cupertino-based tech juggernaut is being credited for inspiring the company's power and USB cable supplier - Volex - to become more eco-friendly.
The London Evening Standard reported today that "The start-up costs in designing and making the new cables will cost it up to $6 million in the current financial year, Volex said today, although, stripping out these one-off costs, profits will be in line with market expectation."

People want to save the trees, but trees are massacring people all over the place!

It's probably Apple driving it anyway. Call me a conspiracy theorist but Apple's are probably pretty efficient anyway and it's probably their lobbyists that are pushing it to harm other manufacturers.

Hey Senyaichiya, Are you drinking bleach? How the hell are trees killing people? The ONLY way a tree can kill someone is if it falls on him/her. What hit you on the head?
