Default Apple's CFO Peter Oppenheimer Acting as Interim Retail Chief

Apple’s largely successful retail branch was headed by Ron Johnson (now CEO of J.C. Penny) until November 1st, 2011. Since he announced his leave in June of this year, there have been many discussions in regards to the successor of Apple’s vital retail division’s leader. Ron Johnson held three central executives responsible for the upkeep and success of Apple’s retail business - Vice president of Merchandising, Jerry McDougal; Vice President of Real Estate, Bob Bridger; and Senior Director of International Retail Operations. No one has been chosen as of yet, including the three central executives.

With Apple still yet to announce a successor for Ron Johnson, the search still continues. Apple has been working with the world-renowned executive search firm Egon Zehnder International to find their new retail chief. It’s been revealed though that Apple’s CFO, Peter Oppenheimer has been running the retail show in the meantime. Oppenheimer is a financial expert that is acting as an interim leader with a lack of retail experience, but his executive leadership is experience is good enough to give order to the previous experienced retail team of McDougal, Bridger, and Cano.

Oppenheimer’s retail chief position isn’t permanent; he is simply holding the spot until the Senior Vice President of Retail is selected. His title as Senior Vice President and CFO hasn’t changed, the responsibility of the position that Ron Johnson previously held has just been added for the time being. His other responsibilities currently include being in charge of controller, treasury, investor relations, tax, information systems, internal audit, and facilities functions.

Despite Apple being on the search to fill the position, they are continuing to make moves such as the grand opening of a new retail store at the Grand Central Terminal in NYC, which is expected to be one of their top selling stores starting as early as this month.
