Apple Debating Construction of Another Data Center, This Time in Oregon

Facebook, Amazon, and Google might have a new server farm neighbor in the pacific northwest soon if Apple’s proposed plans to build a facility in Prineville, Oregon get the go ahead.

According to a report in The Oregonian Saturday Apple is “nearing a decision” on whether to build a new data center. The facility, if approved, would be located only a quarter of a mile south from a Facebook server farm opened in Prineville earlier this year. Apple reportedly toured Facebook’s facility over the summer to help with their decision.

Prineville’s tax incentives, mild climate, and low power costs have wooed a number of high-profile tech companies, creating a data center haven in the city. However, this influx is also a matter of concern for Apple. With so many high-power-always-on facilities connected to the same power grid, Appele is worried Prineville wont have enough power to go around for another demanding facility.

The facility will compliment Apple’ iCloud efforts and their massive 500,000-square-foot facility in North Carolina. Construction plans for the facility have not been released at this time, but if Apple is worried the facility will draw enough power to put the stability of the local power grid in jeopardy it probably isn't small.

That's funny stuff! All jokes aside, a data center up here would bring some much needed short term & long term employment to the area and would probably help with problems being reported regarding iCloud and Siri.

Seriously, though, if they want to build another data center, they'll probably have to build a nuclear reactor to power it. Then it'll become apple computers and nuclear devices. iPhones'll have little nuclear batteries in them, solving the issues software updates couldn't, and their website'll have warheads for the low price of 999,999,999.99.

Doubtful, it's only a data center so it'll be a building full of servers. No human beings required to function buddy. Didn't you read about the lack of jobs it created for the people in North Carolina a while back?
