Apple Teams with U.S. Green Energy Experts for Solar Farm Construction
As MMi reported October 26th, Apple is reportedly planning to build a so-called "solar farm" across from the massive data center it owns and operates in Maiden, N.C. According to local construction and zoning permits obtained by the Charlotte Observer, the permits in question allow Apple to "reshape the slope of some of the 171 acres of vacant land it owns on Startown Road, opposite the data center, in preparation of building a solar farm."
Although few other details are known about the true scope of the plant or when it may eventually become operational, reports surfaced Tuesday to suggest that Apple is teaming with a U.S.-based company to construct and cultivate this unique solar farm.
Meet "Leaf Solar Power," a growing and pro-renewable energy company from Lake Worth, Florida. The folks at Leaf are working with Apple to not only get the solar plant on line, but also to make it capable of powering Apple's $1 billion data center across the way. It is believed that the partnership with Apple is Leaf Solar's biggest and most elaborate project to date.
As we previously confirmed, construction plans for this solar plant are called "Project Dolphin Solar Farm A Expanded." According to the Charlotte Observer, "Project Dolphin" was the code name given Apple's previous plans that led to the $1-billion data center the company now maintains in Maiden.
