Apple Launches In-Store Pick Up for Online Purchases at San Francisco Location

As MMi's Phillip Swanson reported Monday, Apple is apparently moving ahead with plans to introduce a new pilot program that will let customers conveniently pick up orders placed through the online Apple Store in one of the company's brick and mortar retail stores.

The program is known as Sherwood and will extend to any product available for purchase in Apple's online store including "custom configured Macs, engraved and gift-wrapped products and the full slate of third-party accessories."

As we learned earlier today, Apple has now officially begun offering this new service to customers at select locations. For now, the only location we can confirm is in San Francisco, California. There, customers can now order a product online and subsequently pick it up at their nearest retail store - sort of like ordering a high-tech pizza for pick-up.

Based on what we know, the "Select an Apple Store" option simply enables shoppers to enter their zip code and find a local Apple Store. Those who complete an order online with a request for in-store pickup will also have the benefit of a personal setup for the new Apple product they've purchased.

We'll keep you posted on this new in-store pickup option as it becomes more widely available.

Any word on wether they're doing returns for online orders yet? They sent me the wrong color 4s and I need it exchanged but don't want to wait 5 days and be without a phone.
