Apple Stores to Close During Jobs Memorial Ceremony on Apple Campus
Apple will be holding an on campus ceremony to remember Steve Jobs on October 19th in Cupertino. Apple employees across the country will be able to join their Cupertino peers via a live web-cast and as a result Apple retail locations across the country will close during the ceremony.
Apple Stores will close between 10-11 a.m. PST (1-2 p.m. EST). Also, tomorrow October 16th has been declared Steve Jobs Day in California. California Governor Jerry Brown made the announcement Friday night in a tweet. The honor coincides with an invitation only memorial service to be held at Stanford University for Steve Jobs. The event is closed to the public and invitations were reportedly sent to a wide range of people, most well-known Silicon Vally executives.
Apple’s Event on the 19th—in an email from Tim Cook— is described as a celebration of Jobs’ life. Apple has set up an email account, [email protected], for those who which to express and share their memories of Jobs.
No word on whether Apple’s retail locations will allow members of the public sit in on the memorial service.

If the store is closed I highly doubt members of the public would be allowed to attend. Otherwise the store would be open. That's the difference between open and closed.

Steve Jobs WAS one of the world's greatest technological contributers. As for the 'Steve Jobs Day', I think it's a sweet idea. A contribution to a great man!
