I too, think this is rather extreme. It bears little resemblance if you ask me. Good job Apple, you're still making yourself look like a bunch of *****.

I think it is time for some court to declare apple's trademark void and null, since an apple is a completely generic object (as when intel tried to trademark a number, hence the evantual creation of the "pentium" instead of 586). Their greediness is unbearable, very ultra-UNcool. MS seems like a bunch of nice kinds next to apple.

The whole trademark thing is completely unworkable. Intel couldn't patent a number yet Peugeot stopped Porsche from naming the 911 the 901. (thanks forza )

But then if the shoe is on the other foot wouldn't you want to protect what is yours?

I don't care about the iPhone really but I do like the iPad 2 I have because the Android tablet isn't all there yet unlike the Android phones. But as soon as an Android 3G tablet comes out for AT&T or TMobile that's similar to the Samsung 10.1 tablet I will be getting that for sure. I'm tired of Apple's crap anymore.

This might be a valid assessment if the logo in question actually resembled Apple's, but the trouble is, it doesn't. As other have mentioned, it bares a far closer resemblance to the LG circle logo. It doesn't look anything like Apple's. I have also never seen Apple use a solid red logo, as it's usually roughly gray-scale. Shape-wise, it is very geometric, while Apple's actually is shaped like the namesake fruit.

It is not about "protecting your brand" when your logo is so incredibly generic that you could find anything with such a vague resemblance in many places (especially logos for entities that have to do with food, like the super market chain in Australia, which also had very little resemblance, looking more like a green pumpkin.) Apple's logo, in and of itself, is a generic object, and really should never have been granted a trademark for it in the first place.

Sure it's an apple. But that's it. They don't look alike.

Exactly what part of that logo reveals that it is in fact an Apple? In fact, I've seen nothing thus far that actually says it is an Apple. The only reason some people seem to think it is, is because Apple is involved. I'd be willing to wager quite an amount that most people wouldn't be able to claim with any certainty what the logo is really supposed to be if the very mention of the term "Apple" or "apple" hasn't been already made. Merely having a leaf does not make it an Apple. It could be any number of fruits that grows on a plant with leaves that size. And that's assuming it's even a fruit.

Oh wow, that's really sad. Apple didn't come up with the Apple logo from scratch, they got their name and logo from the FRUIT.

Why apple not sues New York city as a "BIG APPLE CITY".

I can understand protecting your trademark but this does seem over the top.

I wonder how apple will be remembered 20 years from now.
Will they be remembered as the people who sue everyone over the simplest thing, or the people who helped with technology a lot.
