Apple Finds Internal Replacement for Departing iAd Chief
An executive leadership shuffle of sorts is taking place in Cupertino, California at Apple headquarters this week.
As MMi reported on August 17th, Andy Miller – Apple’s mobile ad chief who oversees the iAd platform – is set to depart from Apple in order to become a general partner at Highland Capital, a Boston-based venture firm that initially funded Quattro Wireless, which - as we all know - was acquired by Apple ahead of the iAd launch.
Although it wasn't clear how quickly Miller would be replaced and by whom, it now looks like Apple has moved forward with naming a permanent replacement. According to published reports Thursday, Apple has promoted from within the company to fill Miller's vacated seat.
Eddy Cue, Apple's vice president for Internet services, and a 22-year veteran at Apple, has been tapped by new CEO Tim Cook to serve as Senior Vice President of Internet Software and Services. Simply put, he's the new iAd boss.
"Please join me in congratulating Eddy on this significant and well-deserved promotion," Cook said to his fellow Apple team-members via email. "I have worked with Eddy for many years and look forward to working with him even closer in the future."
According to information surfacing in various reports about the promotion, Cue is believed to have played an integral role in helping to create both Apple's online store in 1998 and the iTunes Music Store in 2003.
