Default Adobe and Avid Courting Editors After Final Cut Fallout

Adobe and Avid wasted no time courting distressed Final Cut Pro editors because of the PR poop storm Apple has thrust upon itself with the release of the underwhelming FCPX.

Adobe has slashed the price of Adobe Premiere and the CS 5.5 production suit by 50% for FCP refugees seeking a safe haven. Adobe has also extended the discount to video professionals switching over from Avid based workstations. And apparently current Adobe users are also eligible, so pretty much everyone can jump on the half price bandwagon.

"We're hearing from video professionals that they want pro level tools that address cutting edge work but also allow them to use legacy footage and workflows. At Adobe we've been in the trenches with video pros for years and with Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 and CS5.5 Production Premium we've delivered professional-grade tools that are already being battle-tested by some of the most innovative filmmakers, broadcasters and video pros."- ," - Jim Guerard, general manager and vice president of professional video and audio, Adobe.

Avid already ran its "Crossgrade" promotion cutting the price of it's Media Composer 5 software from $2,495 to $995, which ended June 17. However, in light of Adobe's actions and most likely to capitalize on the FCPX fallout, Avid has decided to extend the "Crossgrade" promotion to pre-existing FCP users starting July 5th.

At least someone appears to be winning because of the FCPX fiasco. Too bad a student discount still gets you more bang for your buck.

Good. I hope this teaches Apple a lesson:

    Apple,

Sure, you have become a giant company because of your walled-garden iPhone, but that walled-garden crap only works on kids and ignorant consumers - try that in the real world with real professionals (aka, adults), and you'll get burned.

Avid will not honor FCP X as part of their deal. You must have a prior version of final cut pro to qualify for this offer. Avid | Final Cut Pro Promotion
