Winners Announced at Annual WWDC Apple Design Awards

Proving once again that WWDC does, in fact, last beyond the excitement and hype of the annual conference's opening keynote address, last night in San Francisco, as the 2011 WWDC winds to a close, Apple held its yearly Apple Design Awards ceremony. Per longstanding tradition, the Cupertino tech giant took time to honor a dozen applications for excellence in design, innovation, and technology.
All told, three apps within four distinct categories were honored: Student, iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Based on the rules established by Apple, to be eligible for the recognition, qualifying applications must be available in either the iOS or Mac App Store. They can be free or paid.
And the winners are:
In the Student category, Grades 2, Pennant, and Pulse News Reader took top honors. In iPhone, Cut the Rope, Golfscape GPS Rangefinder, and Infinity Blade were the big winners. In iPad, the honors went to Osmos for iPad, Our Choice, and djay. Finally, in Mac, Capo, Pixelmator, and Anomaly Warzone Earth were recognized for excellence.
2011 marked the return of the Mac category in Apple's Design Awards. Last year, given the big fuss and hype surrounding the new and re-branded iOS, Mac took a backseat and largely fell off the radar. But as the Mac App Store has since been introduced and received somewhat equal footing within the application world, Apple rightfully restored the category to its place in this year's festivities.
