Plus drug dealers, criminals in gerneral, tourists, and illegal immigrants would get hit with the tax as well. With more than 12 million illegal aliens in the US, that additional tax alone would boost collected taxes.

But the plan in place is so highly manipulated with many people that are making a killing on it that they don't want to go to a fair system that cannot be manipulated.

    YES! Exactly.

Why should we have to pay taxes over the internet if the company doesn't have a presence within the state?

This is how over the phone and mail order purchases have worked for a long time, why change it?

I am sorry if the states are loosing money, but to be honest, they take too much here in California anyway, they have more than enough money, thewy just want to spend too much.

Sounds like a standard response from some liberal-egotistical punk with little respect for American ingenuity. Calling out the super powers and there entrepreneurship, which, strategically over looks their contributions via “bricks and mortar”. To demonize capitalism for not paying its, “fair share of taxes”, is the epitome of the pot calling the kettle black. After all, was it not Durbin and his cronies who signed the very legislation that put us Americans in such dire restraints? But, I’m sure such an elite, educated, and just man would never fathom such hypocrisy.

Your ideology sir... is precisely what I am 100% against politically. Read what you wrote slowly and get back to me on how that makes any sense...

How do you think people get rich? Magic? Its called hard work and dedication. I personally am going to be making $250-$500,000 per year. Magic? Nope. Friggin hard work, debt, and sacrifice, thats how.

Lets tax everyone the same amount. Remember, more money in the hands of the rich = more money in the hands of the poor. Its just common sense and economics.

Yes, prosperity is evil. I mean really? Who would want to be successful, prosperous and rich? The American dream is so evil!

Your views are seriously skewed. You do know it's the government that gave the go ahead with regulations allowing banks to commit the acts that got us where we are and turned around and rewarded them financially on our dime only to turn around and demonize them afterwards? The recent economic collapse is far more complex than a lot of people think. Trust me my man, the rabbit hole runs far deeper than ANYONE can even imagine. Not flaming, just educating because I am well versed in comes finance and subjects such as this.

But back to the thread topic, does it really come as a surprise to anyone that congress would implement a national tax such as this during a time of record spending to cover their bar tab? Trust me guys, our tax burden is going to rise a lot in the coming months. Get ready because it's going to be PB&J sandwiches for lunch and grilled Gov't cheese for dinner soon. They will bleed us dry to fund their short comings while the strength of the dollar continues to decline which will rise the cost of everyday living.

Stop the war on drugs that will fix the deficit. Legalize marijuana for recreational and medicinal use and grow Hemp for its fast renewable resources clothes, fuel, hemp seed oil. And tax people that buy marijuana like they do Cigarettes and Alcohol <---which kill people everyday (marijuana has never caused 1 death EVER). Don't start taxing us on digital content please. Thank you.

Well, you get what you vote for. Remember, Democrats are always for higher taxes. Higher taxes fund their social programs and Unions, and in turn those people vote for them and give them money (Union money is called "Dues" - it comes from the tax payer and goes directly into the Democratic wallet to pay for their reelection campains).

Yup, higher taxes are simply a result of government corruption, plain and simple.

I don't care who you vote for, just don't vote Democrat.

I absolutely agree with Tim. The majority of rich people don't get rich because they're born into royalty. They work their asses off to get where they're at. And while there are definitely those that abuse the system, it's an ignorant comment to say "We need to hit the greedy billionaires." Taxes should be regulated equally to all. I for one do not fall under the $250-$500,000 class, but understand such basic economic concepts. It's hard work that will reap one success, not loafing or obtaining hand-outs from the government, and abusing the system in that sense.

Are you serious about taxing everyone the same? So if i make 80,000 a year, and Joe Dirt makes 250,000 year, the amount of taxes taken out should be the same? Are you outta your EFFFING MIND? Thats whats wrong with the country these days, this is straight Republican talk here, tax break, tax break tax break, oh You mean by giving big companys huge tax breaks for sending their business overseas to India and take jobs away from the American people they should be rewarded for that? Thanks George W. Bush. You jackass.

It's digital content... Amazon is another story... but iTunes should not be taxed because it is digital content not physically tangible....

Did I say anything about a political party? IMO they all are self serving and are an unavoidable evil in the US government. I wish we could do away with them because the 2 major sides do more fighting between themselves than actual work.

Now... you my friend are nuts.
    80,000 x 0.10 (10%) = $8,000
    250,000 x 0.10 (10%) = $25,000

Taxed the same but I still pay more. How is this unfair?
But the fair tax puts 22-24% tax on all sales... and thats it. The same for everyone. How is that unfair? And it would actually generate more revenue than our current system and leave more money in the hands of the citizens.

the only people that lose are those that are manipulating the system for their own dishonest gain.

I already pay taxes on everything I get from iTunes. Music, movie rentals, everything. I just assumed everyone did.
    If I can't mod it...I don't want it.
