Default iMac Refresh In the Next 4-6 Weeks with Sandy Bridge and Thunderbolt

The rumor mill is once again abuzz with rumors of a new Mac, it appears the next line of Mac products to be refreshed is the iMac. This all spawns from a series of tweets from CNET's Brian Tong, who claims he has insider information regarding an update to the popular desktop machines.

The tweets also add that the refresh will not see any significant design or cosmetic changes, but will include two very likely additions, Sandy Bridge processors, and the addition of a Thunderbolt port, as expected. We can also assume that the iMac will most likely see storage increases throughout, as this happens in almost all Mac refreshes.

According to the ever-popular MacRumors Buyer's Guide, the iMac has reached the average amount of days since its last update (it was last updated in late July), making an update to the line not very surprising. If you're looking to buy an iMac, it looks like you should seriously considering waiting, if it all possible.

It wouldn't make any difference whatsoever.

Yes it would, Thunderbolt offers lighting fast data transfer. Currently, it takes a long time to sync an iPod, but with Thunderbolt, syncing would be much faster

It can only go as fast as the slowest connection so for now it's USB 2.0 speeds for most...

iMacs could use the sandy bridge for sure. And the more products with thunderbolt the better
You don't like the iPad because you don't have one!

And how would a cable make your iPod's storage read/write speeds magically increase?

Unless Thunderbolt replaces USB 2.0 then Thunderbolt will be the slowest

Judging from the MacBook Pro refresh, prices will also go up some. So maybe they'll do something smart, and revamp the wireless keyboard to include a number pad. There is no reason you should pay the prices they ask for these things, and have a choice between a functional keyboared (wired only) or a halfway useful keyboard that's not constrained by wires. At least then it would feel like you're actually getting something for the price increase. Either way, I'm thinking I'm most likely gonna drink the 27" kool-aid once the new models are released.

Your average flash memory like you find in iPods, iPhones, iPads can read/write at around 18MBps/12MBps (thats megabytes now ok) (HDD are slower)

USB 2.0 can do speeds of 480mbps (megabits per second), which converts to 60MBps.
So USB 2.0 is more than fast enough to sync your iPod, almost 4 times fast enough.

So until flash memory in iPods can read or write at greater than 480mbps (60MBps) Using a Thunderbolt cable won't make the flash memory or the sync go any faster.

Only high-end SSD external drives currently would benefit from Thunderbolt.

Thunderbolt, hence the name implies a faster data transfer between
I/O outlet faster than USB 3.0 and older iterations of I/O buses. I would
assume they would one day implement on iDevices, why not syncing would be faster
because it goes into the category of data transfer via I/O ports to sync so that would mean
    it would apply to iDevices.
