As for people thinking that Apple itself is not contributing to relief efforts, I'm not sure where you get that from.

These's events always bring the grateful ******** out of the woodwork.
This isn't Apple saying "We're not helping". For all we know they could have donated millions.
Hundreds of countries, my own included, have donated to the U.S. in your time of need, Hurricane Katerina, 9/11 being the two most high profile. Would you rather we have just said, clean up your mess? You're probably one those asshoIes with Twitter and Facebook statuses saying this is karma for Pearl Harbor.
It's a good thing that Celebrities promote certain charities. Again you don't that they don't donate themselves. Thank god there are some Celebs that use their money and status to do some help in the world. Sean Penn for example didn't just donate to Haiti, he actually went to Haiti and used his money to set up his own relief organisation in Haiti It hopefully encourages people to donate because their favourite Celeb is on screen rather than some unknown volunteer. It's a sad reality that people will donate just because a celeb makes it "cool" but it's better than nothing.
It's attitudes like yours why maybe we shouldn't give two $hits about the U.S.

It's sickening how Apple is asking US,THE CONSUMERS for donations when they are the multi-billion dollar company. The least they could do is match our donations 50% or something. Greedy ********
Oh and to everyone who's saying "HURRDURR MAYBE APPLE DONATED AND WE DON'T KNOW IT"
Seriously, shut up. If apple donate we would have heard about it because they never pass up a chance for good publicity.

It's sad too see so many ignorant americans(united states citizens) questioning sending help to other countries when their country is so bad off. Are you aware of the chaos that japan must be suffering, the country is probably frozen , upon thousands of families homeless. Go see the news, and not hopefully , but if you went through a major natural disaster, you should understand thats the time you need most help.
And saying that other countries dont help United States, is just more ignorance for your part.

What is wrong with people... Who cares what Japan did before or why we should help... they are humans, and need help... you would want help too if you were in that situation... Find it in your heart if most you ignorant assholes have one and help them... Quit complaining how they didn't help us (which is a false assumption by you ignorant bastards) and just help them, if you can't then pray for them, if your atheist then spread the word for them. Quit saying why isn't Apple donating, they are using their status to help the cause. Either donate, or shut up that simple.

Money isn't always the best help. Food - Closes - Shelter - place to clean them selfs. Yes it takes money but I rather donate where they need it the most not to some foundation claiming to be helping but some how a non profit origanization CEO making tons of money. Sorry but the Red Cross is a profit company scamming many people and companies.

Whether Apple donated or not should not effect the fact that the ppl of Japan need every bit of help that they can get! At least Apple's giving us a fast way to donate. If you're not going to donate that's your choice, but don't sit there and try and give others a reason not to, that's just sad!

This thread is about apple taking donations to help Japan.. everyone has their own thoughts on this.. however please do not point fingers as to their thoughts compared to your thoughts.. in the end we will all help Japan.

Guys, I HIGHLY doubt Apple is looking to make money on this. This is just an easy way to use your money, possibly even a gift card, to send to the victims of this natural disaster. To insinuate that Apple is keeping a cut of the money is utterly ridiculous (and I am not Apple's greatest fan if you read any overage post of mine).
That said, I would like to see Apple match what people are donating in some way.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I once prayed to God for an iPhone, but quickly found out He didn't work that way...so I stole an iPhone and prayed for His forgiveness.

I feel this applies to the "instant gratified" society that we are seen as. We act based on a reactionary manner. I mean, in general, how often are people talking about the problems that are still going on in Haiti? Is that on the news still? Even so, I agree Japan does need help, but the USA seriously needs to help itself internally. Note that I am not holding myself blameless, nor am I saying this applies to everyone and everything.
Haha, the idea of non-profit should be revised. It ticks me to see CEOs receive pay greater than the president, himself. It defeats the idea of selfless service. I think the greatest example of an organization taking advantage its non-profit status is the Collegeboard organization.

Apple ask for donations, but what about if they take at least $10.00 from each iPad 2 that they sold? or some %. What you think Steve?
