Why would they do that? They would lose a lot of money because people would just wait until the next product came out.

When all is said and done $999 (The price of the models you listed) isn't really under $1000. So... pretty stupid for you to write that. You may fall for the "it's under $1000" as seen on tv schemes when the product is $999, but is doesn't mean everyone else does.

ffuuuuuu im glad they didnt update them greatly. I mean i got a macbook pro 17' 2.66 GHz intel core i7
4 GB 1067 MHz ddr3 in late october. I was so nervous mine would be outdated like crazy. Anyway i love it and i aint got the money for a new one.
Still the graphics chip sounds good. But im no expert so can some one tell me is it really a better graphics chip?
Another question for you people is the i7 i have as good as the new i7? or are they different chips? I keep hearing i7 so i suppose is the same?
Larger track pad i do like that. battery life as long as it lasts 4 hours with itunes syncing and browsing im fine.

So another question is my macbook pro 17 inch really out of date badly or not to bad?

Yeah $999 isnt much different than $1000. In my world at least and most others.

oh yeah the HD camera thing. Nice but i barely use it. I use my ipod touch or soon to be iphone 5 to video call. Soon to be i hope ipad 2.

honestly i never get my hopes up when anticipating an apple refresh, at least not anymore. i mean, you only get a handful of upgrades. for the most part i saw changes i liked. but hey that's just me. from reading the feedback i'd say most of you guys just a bit picky!

i agree, it's kinda of a pain in the arse. it's like hey i can play something on my tv. but part of it is missing. THE SOUND!

and yeah the SSD would have been nice to have, but IMO if apple can get you to pay for an upgrade, then they will. why stop themselves from making potential revenue?

dude, i'm pretty sure you've sacrificed a lot in those four years, i think YOU can wait. the engagement ring should most definitely be a priority. i mean unless your relationship isn't worth more than a computer. just my 2 cents.

This new thunderbolt seems cool and all but it's kind of useless until all the peripheral makers adopt it. What would be really awesome though is if the new iPad had a thunderbolt connection for uber fast data transfer!

As I understand it, even the fastest SSD's have read/write speeds a few hundred Mb/s and flash like in iPads is slower than that. With USB 2.0 doing 480Mb/s is it not fast enough to handle the maximum speed that an SSD or Flash can do anywho. Connecting an iPad via Thunderbolt wouldn't make syncing faster. Or am I wrong?

Ha you sound like her dad. I know our relationship is worth more than a computer. But more than a MBP and an iPad? Haha jk.

I am glad I am not the only one who thinks apple dropped the ball on this one. SSD should have been standard with these. I can't wait to run my macbook air up against one of these new pros. A 5400 rpm drive a year old video card and a new processor. It is a complete joke.

For those of you who have never experienced what a SSD does for your computer, you are missing out big time. A standard hard drive has been and still is the biggest bottleneck in computers to this day.

My macbook airs SSD is rated at 235mbs for read and write, usb 2.0 is 480mbs. So yes you have that right.

But you have to look ahead a few years and think where the speeds may be at when a new port like this thunderbolt could be the standard. From the looks of it, in the next 5 to 10 years we should be seeing integrated circuits that use light based circuit traces instead of metal traces that work off electrical signals. This leads to theoretical data transfer rates that could run at the speed of light. With little or no resistance or suffer any negative effects caused by heat, like conventional circuits suffer from.

I waited a few months for this update and snapped up a 15" this morning without thinking twice. Regardless of what I might want, I need to get a faster laptop for work,*my 3-year-old MBP one just isn't cutting it anymore. No doubt the SSD, 8 GB of love spiffy new processor and graphics card will make me smile when I fire up CS5.

yeah I'm just gonna do a DIY job and replace my SuperDrive with a SSD on my current MBP. Probably go for a 64GB SSD.

I would love a SSD in my MBP, I just hate how bloody expensive they are for such a small amount of space.

Because they did some serious upgrades to it. I'm not sure about beating the 330m, but it is at least the same as the 320m (last gen 13in).
