New MacBook Pro Rumors: Dedicated OS X SSD and Larger Trackpad

The title pretty much says it all. with reports that the first retailers and Apple retail locations allegedly receiving their shipments of the next generation MacBook Pros, new rumors have begun to pour in regarding the soon-to-be-refreshed product.
The first, It looks like the new MacBook Pros will feature a MacBook Air-like SSD that will be large enough to hold the OS X core files. This would dramatically increase system speeds, and would allow for boot times similar to the 2010 MacBook Air. It is likely that the notebooks will still include a regular spinning hard drive in order to allow users to have more disk space than the MacBook Air.
The other rumor coming in today is that the trackpad for the new MacBook pro will be even larger than the current models. There's also word that the new notebooks could be as much as 0.5 pounds lighter than current models, which would mean the 13 inch model would approach the weight of the MacBook Air, although it is unlikely that the new MacBook pro will feature the same slim form-factor, as it is expected that the new line will still feature an optical drive.
We'll probably have our answers to whether these rumors are true very soon. All signs point to the release of the new MacBook Pros this week, likely by Thursday.

How about a better GPU and re designed heatsink so the keyboard doesn't get red hot when playing games in Windows Bootcamp.

This would make this upgrade a must buy if Apple adds them on the MBP.
Asking for help is different from being stupid. Fanboys can rot in @#$%!

It's not like a large SSD won't come at a high price. Apple isn't going to simply give you a 256GB SSD for free (which is the minimum size most MBP users would accept). The possibility that has been brought up is an 8 or 16 gigabyte SSD that would only hold the OS and some apps. A mechanical HDD would hold other user data. This seems like somewhat of a compromise because then only your system and apps are starting up and shutting down quickly. Data transfer speeds would remain the same. I recently bought a 15" MBP and, in my opinion, a dedicated SSD is the best option; no compromises.

ssd, hdd, AND optical?? I doubt they can fit that much in the 13" model, it would be the first. I'm guessing they using some proprietary Mini SSD like NeilSenius said, something that's integrated and can't be upgraded. This will only hold the OS so not much space is needed. They definitely cannot fit three 2.5" drive bays in there.

Yeah it wasn't a deal breaker but definitely a huge drawback. It was still worth it in the end though.. this thing is wicked fast! I love it so much I put an 80GB SSD in my PC for my boot drive and got the same performance boost out of it. I'll never own another computer without an SSD again.

If the updates are significant enough I will consider buying a new one and selling my current 17" MBP.

Drifting.... an dreaming.....
I would still like the CHOICE of a possible Blu-Ray drive. Pray for Lion to integrate true HD playback.
(Please no ranting about the streaming future, optical media dying, bag of hurt! I would like to have one as it makes sense for my personal setup and needs. It's just my 2 cents.)Last edited by Shashlike; 02-22-2011 at 12:54 AM.
