Apple Reveals Top Trends, Most Popular Apps of 2010
Apple's 2010 Rewind is revealing some of the best-selling, most popular and downloaded iPhone and iPad apps from its iTunes App Store this year. Not surprisingly, many familiar names are turning up.
Apple named Hipstamatic - which enables iPhone users to alter the look of iPhone pics via "aged" tones and shades - as the iPhone app of the year. Conversely, Plants vs. Zombies was named the iPhone game of the year by the folks at Apple. Flipboard was honored as the iPad app of the year, and Osmos for iPad was similarly christened the iPad game of the year.
According to Apple's look back at the most downloaded paid apps for the iPhone this year, Angry Birds, Doodle Jump, and Skee-Ball made the list. The highest grossing iPhone app was MLB.com's At Bat 2010. At $14.99 during the season, it's not difficult to understand how this popular app generated so much coin. Angry Birds was another top grossing app this year, right along with Call of Duty: Zombies, and Bejeweled 2+ Blitz. The Angry Birds phenomenon also turned up among the top free iPhone apps, thanks to its free "Lite" version. Incredibly, it came in just behind Facebook as the second most popular free iPhone app.
In terms of the iPad, Apple's "Pages," word processing application, "GoodReader" and "Numbers" took the top three places, respectively, while Books, Pandora Radio, Netflix, Google Mobile App, and Solitaire came in as the top free apps for the iPad on iTunes.
Interestingly enough, while Apple saw the anticipated popular trend of photo-taking and photo-sharing apps this year, the amount of interest expressed in augmented reality apps really blossomed in 2010, likely to give app developers a great deal of incentive to continue dabbling down that road in 2011.
You can check out all the iPhone and iPad trends and download data now from iTunes.

I think I have a weird selection of apps. I don't have any of these or any of the current top paid (except Infinity Blade, gotta love that one). I have Pandora too, it's pretty sweet. It actually plays stuff I like almost 100% of the time unlike the others.

Totally agree with u about Infinity Blade....awesome game!! Feel like I am playing my Xbox 360 on my iPhone!
As for Pandora....amazing app. You can have no music on your iPhone, and just use Pandora instead....sure you won't always get the songs you want, but you usually do...and the best part is you discover music you have never heard before!! By far the best part of pandora. I just wonder how long they will be able to keep this awesome app free.....my guess, not to long.El Zurdo
