Apple Hints at "Revolutionary" Mac OS X 10.7

What I got out of this is to buy it on release day (to have the 10.7.0 version) then hold off on upgrading until apps are made compatible with a possibly completely different OS.

10.6.4 is nowhere near Windows 7 in graphics performance. Not even close. I'm talking about the GPU drivers that are for games. Apple can't write them worth a damn and they don't really seem to have the desire to include either ATi or nVidia in the process of improving them. 10.6.4 took a huge step back in performance. I just installed StarCraft 2 in Windows 7 and compared to OS X it's a MASSIVE improvement. I get 30+ FPS at high settings on everything at 1900x1200 in W7. Since I don't know of an OS X utility for in game FPS monitoring, I'm guessing I'm getting lower than 20 FPS at medium/low settings at 1280x720. OS X has nothing on Windows 7 in graphics performance, never has and never will. Anand Lal Shimpi from AnandTech.com has stated that OS X graphics drivers make a card perform at least one generation behind what the hardware is capable of. Apple has NEVER been able to write drivers that are on par with Windows.

Not true. Windows 7 beats Snow Leopard video performance due to graphics card updates. Apple hasn't done anything to improve it. All I know is that Valve stated that Apple, nVIDIA, and ATI are working together to improve Mac gaming performance.

Ahhhh the gamer. You're right games just don't run well on OSX as they do in Windows. The worst part about it they probably never will. At this point I don't think Apple sees games as a priority. Apple must be doing something right or they would be growing they way they are. Of course you could always use bootcamp to get your game fix...

Oh I do. Trust me! If OS X had the same performance that Windows 7 does it would be the perfect OS. I like alot about W7, and I wish that OS X had a few of it's features but I spend over 90% of my time in OS X. Windows 7 is my gaming OS, and OS X is for everything else. Apple makes the best OS and notebooks in my opinion but gaming performance and offering a better card in the iMacs rather than neutered mobile parts would be better for me. Same goes for the Mac Pro, the cards in those machines are waaaaaaay too weak to be in a computer of that performance level.
