Apple May Be Tinkering in Secrecy with New "AppleHD" Video Format

All signs point to Apple working very diligently to introduce its own video format at some time in the future. With reports indicating that the so-called 'AppleHD' video format would be scalable up to 4K, one, naturally, could assume that this video format will also have something to do with the rumored revamp coming to AppleTV.
With YouTube beginning to support 4K and Google already enjoying its own video format, Apple would certainly be well served by the existence of a "superHD" video format and the subsequent opportunities that could be seized during the increasingly popular fusion of internet and television. According to sources who shared their knowledge of Apple's pet video project with Hardmac, Apple's endeavor could represent "a transition towards better codec, dropping the efficient but CPU-consuming encoding codec H.264 for adopting Wavelet transform-type of codec which will allow even better compression rate while offering better efficiency."
If Apple does, in fact, venture down this path, the company would be introducing yet another high-end offering. A 4K-compatible device, possibly one with a "Retina Display," could be especially pricey - perhaps much more so than Apple's other far-from inexpensive product releases (iPad, iPhone 4) this year. Still, a forthcoming Apple TV 2.0 would almost demand a suspected 'AppleHD' video format in order to garner the attention and market ubiquity that Apple TV largely failed to capture the first time around. If we did not get confirmation yet, we can suspect that Apple will be using a format evolving or directly originating from Dirac.

Interesting... Apple TV 2.0 and AppleHD would go hand in hand.

Apple.. The only selfish company out there. Start using the .mkv technology. That has great potential. Sony, LG, Windows.. many companies use it, and only apple somehow wants its own thing. I really hope this project dies.

HARD UP? Are you serious? Hard up for what? Apple is the most valuable tech company in the world. Are you insinuating that Apple is hard up for money. If so you are looking pretty stupid right now. You should really know your facts before you post such garbage in the future.

Anybody notice the dramatically degraded downsampling of video you get with the iphone4s' YouTube app. If you go to YouTube via safari it doesn't downsample the video? [not nearly as much] I've only noticed this with YouTube[google] *hint* though

(1) I don't have the phone. I'm waiting for a REAL fix on the issue so that I actually can buy it and enjoy it and not have to go through the headache and waste of time of returning it.
(2) I will continue to complain simply because I can. I have a problem with Apple "tinkering" with this crap that apparently everybody wants to "die" and then not even bothering with their flaw.
(3) My ghetto slow-azz 3G doesn't have this kind of issue. Neither did the AT&T Razr v3xx, or the Sprint HTC Touch before that. So take ur guarantee and shove THAT up ur pooper.
(4) the update doesn't fix the problem. Or are u another Apple fanatic/employee that's actually retarded enough to believe it does?
(5) ......
So if I stick my multiple asses in the air I will magically get better reception on the phone? No f**kin way man! How'd u come to that conclusion?
