Apple Releases Safari 5 With Extensions for PC/MAC
It seems Apple wasn't quite done with their announcements after the KeyNote presentation today. A press release posted by Apple announced the release of Safari 5 earlier today, which is now available for download on both the Mac and PC. This new version brings TONS of updates and new features such as Safari Reader.
Apple today released Safari 5, the latest version of the world's fastest and most innovative web browser, featuring the new Safari Reader for reading articles on the web without distraction, a 30 percent performance increase over Safari 4,* and the ability to choose Google, Yahoo! or Bing as the search service powering Safari's search field. Available for both Mac and Windows, Safari 5 includes improved developer tools and supports more than a dozen new HTML5 technologies that allow web developers to create rich, dynamic websites. With Safari 5, developers can now create secure Safari Extensions to customize and enhance the browsing experience.
Safari Reader removes annoying ads and other visual distractions from online articles. So you get the whole story and nothing but the story. It works like this: As you browse the web, Safari detects if you’re on a web page with an article. Click the Reader icon in the Smart Address Field, and the article appears instantly in one continuous, clutter-free view. You see every page of the article — whether two or twenty. Onscreen controls let you email, print, and zoom. Change the size of the text, and Safari remembers it the next time you view an article in Safari Reader.
HTML 5 Features
Web standards are the future of the Internet. The world’s most innovative browser, Safari continues to lead the way in support for HTML5. Safari 5 supports over a dozen new HTML5 features that allow developers to create interactive content and media experiences that work right in the browser — without the need for third-party plug-ins. Other new HTML5 features in Safari 5 include HTML5 Geolocation, HTML5 sectioning elements, HTML5 draggable attribute, HTML5 forms validation, HTML5 Ruby, HTML5 AJAX History, EventSource and WebSocket.
Safari Developer Program
If you know how to develop web pages, then you already know how to make extensions for Safari. And help with putting it all together is built right in. It’s called Extension Builder, and it makes it simple to package your extension for distribution and installation. Instead of manually entering your scripts, menu items, stylesheets, and commands in a complicated text file, you can select your extension resources visually in a template that’s as easy to fill out as a form. You can also use the built-in Web Inspector to design, debug, and optimize your extension, just as you would a website.
Safari 5 is available for download today, RIGHT NOW!

Why do people even bother commenting on being the first person to comment on a post. Not worth it haha. Anyways, I use firefox rather than safari as firefox has always served me well!

I guess this is nice if you visit the few HTML5 sites out there but I just played around inside Safari 5 comparing it to Chrome...on Windows mind you....
Chrome is still faster.
Opened up modmyi.com and...
Chrome loaded in 7 seconds, Safari 5 took 17 seconds on broadband
It choked up on guess what....the Flash ads..."To unpathed waters, undreamed shores." -- William Shakespeare

Is there proof that Safari is the worlds fastest web browser? Steve I think you're asking for a law suit there buddy! iPhone is the only thing you got going for you people (iPad is lame...it's not a real computer and you are limited on what you can install on it so don't even throw that one up at me), Mac's generally suck as they lack bru-cru software availability compared to PC's and most of the world uses a PC...get over yourself already!
I give you full credit for what has happened with the iPhone...it truly is the worlds leader in mobile phones (everyone is building around it) but knock it off already about everything else you make, would ya already?
