let's be honest here, I wanted the iPad just like most ppl but I'm not willing to spend without getting all the facts first, that being said I'm very dissapointed with this:
1. The iPad is a simple device with a huge price tag.
2. Forget the 14 days, this things packs a 30% restocking fee.
3. If you don't update then your apps won't either.
4. The greed that drives apple is really what keeping me away from the any future devices.
so with that said, I'm ready to move on from apple. I'm selling my 3gs tomorrow and I'm going google.

Have fun with upgrades from the providers for google devices. Think 10$ is a hefty price try having to buy a new phone for the newer versions of Android.

Quite a few Android devices have had upgrades (major) over their lifetimes, many of which were OTA updated.
Let's not ignore the fact that there is a huge ROM cooking community in case the upgrade to 1.5/1.6 wasn't enough for you.
2.1 has been available on the Milestone (read: Moto DROID) for some time now and porting isn't exactly rocket science.
So where are these FW revisions that people who have more than a pair of brain cells to rub together going to come from?
