Default Apple Releases Litany of Updates: iLife, Raw, and Aperture

Okay, so they're not the most groundbreaking updates imaginable, but they're important and worth noting nonetheless.

Following Apple's release of Aperture 3 on Tuesday is a litany of image software updates. What's on the update menu, you ask? iLife Support 9.0.4, Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update 3.0, and Aperture SlideShow Support Update 1.0. If you haven't already noticed, these handy dandy updates are readily accessible through your Mac's Software Update.

The release of Aperture 3 is particularly noteworthy, given the hundreds of new features packed into the software - some of the coolest being face recognition and GPS location for pics. The software retails for $199 with the upgrade for existing customers priced at $99. The Aperture update targets the playback of video segments used in Aperture 3 slideshows on Snow Leopard. The aforementioned update is a 62.3 MB download requiring Mac OS X 10.6.2.

The iLife '09 update, on the other hand, aims to smooth out some software issues, especially slideshow stability when viewed in the Media Browser and iPhoto. Users of iLife '09, iWork '09, and Aperture are all "strongly encouraged" by Apple to jump on this update.

Lastly, the Raw update extends RAW image compatibility for Aperture 3 and iPhoto '09 for a short list of new cameras and formats, including Canon PowerShot S90, Canon sRAW, Canon mRAW, Leica D-LUX 4, Panasonic Lumix DMC-G1, Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH1, and Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3.
