Latest 10.6.3 Build Improves OpenGL Support, Logic Pro
Apple seeded the latest build of the upcoming maintenance and security update to Snow Leopard to the developer community on Friday. Mac OS X 10.6.3 Build 10D538's sed notes list only one known issue, in a sign that Mac OS X 10.6.3 is close to the end of its development cycle.
AppleInsider quotes a source as saying that the build has a fix to QuickTime X that is supposed to improve the "security and compatibility" of the media player and improves its reliability. The release also contains improvements to Logic Pro, Apple's digital audio workstation and MIDI sequencer software application, which it acquired from Emagic in 2002. AppleInsider's source also notes that third-party printer support is improved, and that the OpenGL support that was included in the last build two weeks ago has been expanded.
With the latest build, developers are now asked to focus their testing effors towards core system components such as AirPort, VoiceOver and graphics drivers, according to AppleInsider. An issue related to photo albums viewed via the Front Row media center software is said to be the single problem spotted in Mac OS X 10.6.3 so far. People familiar with the ongoing development of Mac OS X 10.6.3 also believe that the release will be made public sometime in the next six weeks.
The current build takes up just over half a gigabyte.
