The Magic Mouse
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgiGd53jg2U]YouTube - Apple Magic Mouse (Video Presentation)[/ame]
video via Apple
"The entire mouse is a button."
As forecast by alert bloggers reading Apple's patent applications, the new mouse has multi-touch input over the entire top surface. A contextual menu can be brought up by tapping the upper left-hand corner, and this is user-configurable so that lefties can use the upper-right corner.
You can scroll vertically with a forward-back movement of your finger, and horizontally when you drag side to side. Keeping your finger on the surface allows precise control, while swiping causes the movement to continue with the momentum of your movement. The surface also supports free movement in both X and Y axes by scrolling in circles on the top of the mouse. This will take some getting used to, but I have a feeling I'll end up wondering how I got by without it. Swiping with two fingers, on the other hand, sends a "previous" or "next" command. This will allow you to skip tracks in iTunes, for example, or turn pages. Holding down the control key while scrolling allows you to zoom your screen: an up-scroll to zoom in and a down-scroll to zoom out.
Functions of the Magic Mouse are customizable in System Preferences, including the option to just turn off the multi-touch features.

Love it!
And "Rota" - They lost a legal battle with the use "Mighty Mouse" which is why they switched. But to your point, I think its more of a marketing ploy than anything ("...look at this ma, it's like magic"..: )

Why does apple hate us ?!
Really another mouse with no real button?
I have a mighty mouse already. With the neat little ball... But I tell you what, if I want to play a game like WOW or Starcraft with it, your S-O-L.
The touch sensor for right click is a complete crapshoot. If I pay attention to my finger placement on the mouse surface, then I have about a 70% chance it will perform a right click instead of a standard click.
I'd talk about ergonomics, but seeing as there are none. I'll save my rant.

Hmm, nice concept but one thing I don't like is the sharp edges, not sure it will play nice using it all day long, i like to grab my mouse from the sides, not resting your palm on top. I move my fingers a lot while working to avoid a "syndrome", the pointer will move a lot unintentionally. I'll give it try anyways on my next stop at the Apple Store.

Just got back from the Apple store about an hour ago, and Im not very happy. I went up to the mall for one reason, to see this new mouse. I was gonna try it, maybe buy it, but when I ask them where they are, they say tomorrow!! Ahhh, Im gonna have to make another trip tomorrow!
